INTRODUCING THE RISE UP SURF TEAM
PHILLIP – FOUNDER/ GUIDE

Born and raised on the Island of Barbados. The ocean has been his life from day one.
The urge for travel and adventure led Phillip to leave the rock and pursue studies in the UK. Ten years later Phillip has worked, lived, surfed and traveled in over 80 countries.
From his visit to Nicaragua in 2005 Phillip fell in love with it. Today Nicaragua is his home and with the help of some amazing people Phillip created Green Pathways and Rise Up to share the beauty of Nicaragua and its outstanding surf with the world.
His knowledge and experience of Nicaragua and its waves is second to non assuring you will not only be surfing the best waves but you will also truly connect with Nicaragua and its people.
GEMMA – CO FOUNDER & OPERATIONS MANAGER

Born in the UK. Living with orangutans in Indonesia and working with local tribes in the Amazon are just a few of the incredible experiences that have shaped her love and incredible passion for wildlife and travel.
Like many, Nicaragua stole her heart and consequently she made it her home in 2007. Her love of Nicaragua and desire to make a true difference in the lives and environment of people led her to co-found Green Pathways with Phillip. Together they work hard to make the dream a reality.
GAVIN – CHEF

What can we say. Gavin is a super cool, super energetic Trinidadian that creates outstanding food!
SHELBI – PHOTOGRAPHER
Shelbi’s insatiable curiosity has led her through untouched jungles and Himalayan mountains, down into volcanoes and across raging rapids–all while tugging along three cameras. Her newly discovered passion for surf photography has led her into the waves for Rise Up Surf Tours.
KAYA – HEALER

Kaya was born in England and grew up in Barbados. In 2002 she studied Kripalu Bodywork at the Kripalu Centre for Yoga and Health in the US. Kripalu BodyWork combines a Swedish massage base with yogic Eastern energy work, creating the complete relaxation massage. Following her bodywork training she worked for 3 years at the Maas Clinic in Barbados, the leading Osteopathic and Functional Diagnostic Medical Clinic in the Caribbean. During this time she also trained in the US and UK in Upledger’s CranioSacral Therapy – a gentle, hands on, therapeutic treatment, which focuses on the bones of the skull and the more subtle influences of the connective tissue system of the body.
Kaya has just completed a further four years training to receive her BSc in Osteopathy at the European School of Osteopathy in the UK. Osteopathy is a holistic method of treatment, addressing not only the symptoms of the complaint but also identifying and rectifying the cause.
MRVIN AKA CHINTO – ASSISTANT GUIDE

Marvin hails from a small fishing village in Northern Nicaragua. His positive attitude and love for surfing makes him a pure pleasure to surf with. When not working with Rise Up he works as an assistant volcano boarding guide and trying hard to master the English language.
