Today marks the end of our first official surf tour and what an adventure it turned out to be. Philip, Sam and Guy spent a full three weeks here in Nicaragua with the Rise Up crew and without a doubt we had an unforgettable time full of wonderful  surf and crazy adventures.

From the time they landed the surf was on, the first day dealt us some windy conditions which led in to ten straight days of offshore winds accompanied by pumping swell. From the barrels to the tops of volcanoes to the evening stories under the rancho we thank them for showing us such an amazing time and allowing us to progress forward with our dream of becoming the best tour company in Nicaragua.

Phil, Sam and Guy, you came as participants and left as friends. Good luck with everything life throws at you and see you guys soon!

Sam Guy Phil

INTRODUCING THE RISE UP SURF TEAM

PHILLIP – FOUNDER/ GUIDE

Born and raised on the Island of Barbados. The ocean has been his life from day one.

The urge for travel and adventure led Phillip to leave the rock and pursue studies in the UK. Ten years later Phillip has worked, lived, surfed and traveled in over 80 countries.

From his visit to Nicaragua in 2005 Phillip fell in love with it. Today Nicaragua is his home and with the help of some amazing people Phillip created Green Pathways and Rise Up to share the beauty of Nicaragua and its outstanding surf with the world.

His knowledge and experience of Nicaragua and its waves is second to non assuring you will not only be surfing the best waves but you will also truly connect with Nicaragua and its people.

GEMMA – CO FOUNDER & OPERATIONS MANAGER

Born in the UK. Living with orangutans in Indonesia and working with local tribes in the Amazon are just a few of the incredible experiences that have shaped her love and incredible passion for wildlife and travel.

Like many, Nicaragua stole her heart and consequently she made it her home in 2007. Her love of Nicaragua and desire to make a true difference in the lives and environment of people led her to co-found Green Pathways with Phillip. Together they work hard to make the dream a reality.

GAVIN – CHEF

What can we say. Gavin is a super cool, super energetic Trinidadian that creates outstanding food!

SHELBI – PHOTOGRAPHER

Shelbi’s insatiable curiosity has led her through untouched jungles and Himalayan mountains, down into volcanoes and across raging rapids–all while tugging along three cameras. Her newly discovered passion for surf photography has led her into the waves for Rise Up Surf Tours.

KAYA – HEALER

Kaya was born in England and grew up in Barbados. In 2002 she studied Kripalu Bodywork at the Kripalu Centre for Yoga and Health in the US. Kripalu BodyWork combines a Swedish massage base with yogic Eastern energy work, creating the complete relaxation massage. Following her bodywork training she worked for 3 years at the Maas Clinic in Barbados, the leading Osteopathic and Functional Diagnostic Medical Clinic in the Caribbean. During this time she also trained in the US and UK in Upledger’s CranioSacral Therapy – a gentle, hands on, therapeutic treatment, which focuses on the bones of the skull and the more subtle influences of the connective tissue system of the body.

Kaya has just completed a further four years training to receive her BSc in Osteopathy at the European School of Osteopathy in the UK. Osteopathy is a holistic method of treatment, addressing not only the symptoms of the complaint but also identifying and rectifying the cause.

MRVIN AKA CHINTO – ASSISTANT GUIDE

Marvin hails from a small fishing village in Northern Nicaragua. His positive attitude and love for surfing makes him a pure pleasure to surf with. When not working with Rise Up he works as an assistant volcano boarding guide and trying hard to master the English language.

Together we will make your surf vacation in Nicaragua a wonderful and memorable experience, no question about it.

Welcome to Rise Up Surf Tours Nicaragua

Bienvenidos a Rise Up Surf Tours Nicaragua

Rise up Surf Tours has been created to spread the passion for the ocean and for Nicaragua that engrains our everyday life. My name is Phillip Southan and I was born on the Island of Barbados. At the age of 17 I left to pursue studies in the UK. Making that move to the UK changed my life forever. It gave me the opportunity to travel and surf in over 80 countries and gain an honors degree in Environmental Geoscience.

I first came to Nicaragua in 2004 to do a research project on Scarlet Macaws in the Peten region of the Guatemalan jungle. After that I traveled all of the countries in the region, including Nicaragua. From that first visit Nicaragua stole my heart. The warm people, uncrowded surf and insane volcanoes, lakes and jungle were breathtaking. Nature and surfing are my passions in life . Nicaragua is abundant with both. Year and after year  I returned to Nicaragua and finally three years ago I made it my home. I have done various different things from working with turtle conservation to managing a surf camp to owning my own hostel. These experiences have given me the knowledge and power to confidently say that I know Nicaragua. Using this knowledge and pursuing my passion for surf and nature I have created two travel companies. One is a Responsible Travel Adventure Company by the name of Green Pathways www.greenpathways.com  and the other is Rise Up. I am passionate about having a positive impact on the earth and on Nicaragua. I have been lucky enough to travel to almost every corner of the country and surf almost every knook and cranny of its pacific coastline. As we grow and develop we will be starting our own and supporting a number of sustainable projects. To make anything a reality money is required thus through travel, adventure and surf our goal is to create a sustainable source of funding.

I have also been very luckily to work with and become friends with some amazing local and international people in Nicaragua. Although I say I, it is really we because nothing I have have done or will do in the future will be without the corporation of my friends and colleagues. I will introduce them in later posts.

I would like to welcome one and all to join us on our journey. Our mission to give people life changes travel experiences in Central Americas hidden Gem.  Our epic surf adventures include the best accommodation, beach front location, the best transport and of course the best surf guides. Alongside epic surf holidays we will be doing one week yoga and surf retreats and action packed EcoAdventure surf packages. Take a look at our packages for some more information http://www.riseupsurftoursnicaragua.com/packages.php

On this blog we will be keeping you up to date with what we are up to, our latest deals and offers and the latest in adventure and environment in Nicaragua.

Saludos

Phillip
